She Did That! Highlighting Emma Gonzalez by Tabreia V.C.
Ms. Emma González is a survivor of the February 2018 school shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Not only is she a survivor of a tragic event that took the lives of 17 innocent people, but she is also an activist who is advocating for better gun control. Since the shooting, González has continued to put together marches, for example, the "March for our lives", in which parents, students, and teachers alike marched for better control of firearms and demanded that schools be safer places for our students. She has also written many speeches for people around the world to hear to encourage them to make changes within their community. Additionally, she has made it possible for the youth to find their voices and to call out the things that are not right in this country and in the world. González has influenced us to not give up. She has opened our eyes to see that if there is a change that needs to be made, we need to stick together and try our best as a community to get it done. If we don’t change what’s going on in this world, we will continue to drift away from each other more and more. Ms. Emma González has encouraged each of us to stand up for what is right and to be brave in the face of opposition. And for that, we honor her.
